I'm pouring resin parts in an open 1 piece mold and I've run into 2 problems: The resin climbs the sides of the box (capillary action) and the surface of the resin is not flat. Any tips on how to get a completely flat surface on the back?Updated a month ago

One trick to get a completely smooth, flat back to an open mold is get a piece of glass or thick clear plastic and mold release it with Pol Ease 2300. You then over pour the cavity until the resin has completely come out of the mold and is laying on the flange of your mold. Then using the mold released side of the glass, starting from one side, slowly lay the glass over the back of the mold to slowly squish the excess material until the glass is laying flat on the back of your mold to create a perfectly flat backed piece. You do not want to forcefully squish the glass past flat which may force too much material to exit the mold. Only lay it on the back of the mold and place a small weight on it to hold it in place. You only want to lay it on the back side until it is flat. If you force the plate too far down, when the mold retracts it will suck in air. Note: make sure your work area is covered and protected as the excess material that is squished out of your mold will flow all over your work area.
